I am so happy to release my cover of the Saturday Night Live modern classic, “I Wish It Was Christmas Today.” It speaks to my deep love of SNL as well as a good ol’ Christmas tune.

I performed and produced this song on my own. I ain’t no dumbie.

Now Available on Streaming Platforms

The song is available on all major streaming platforms. You can stream and download the song below.

SNL’s Original “I Wish It Was Christmas Today”

In December 2000, Horatio Sanz, Jimmy Fallon, Chris Kattan, and Tracy Morgan stood on the stage of 8H at 30 Rockefeller, and performed the first rendition of “I Wish It Was Christmas Today.” Little did they know that this song would go on to be performed over ten times on that stage.

The lyrics would slightly change version to version, but the energy would remain the same. Four dudes (and sometimes Muppets) having a dumb, good time around a Casio keyboard.

Version One Lyrics

I don’t care what your momma says
Christmas time is near
I don’t care what your daddy says
Christmas time is dear
All I know is that Santa’s sleigh
Is making its way to the USA

I don’t care what the mayor says
Christmas is full of cheer
I don’t care if you think it’s a lie
Christmas will soon be here
I don’t care about the CIA
I don’t care what the calendar say

I wish it was Christmas today
I wish it was Christmas today

Words and music by Horatio Sanz and Jimmy Fallon

Julian Casablancas’ Cover

Julian Casablancas of The Strokes fame would go on to record his own version. It has all the hallmarks of a Casablancas/Strokes song: strong guitar harmonies and some Casablancas’ trademarked sing-screaming. His lyrics pull from the various versions over the years.

Merry Christmas, my friends…

Hot tip: If you watch my version in conjunction with original, they sync up in wonderfully weird ways. (see below)

Happy Holidays, my dear friends! Here is to 2020!
